In the year to June 2007, there was a 31% increase in the number of registered domain names, for a total of 138 million domain names registered worldwide. Of this 138 million, 51.5 million are ccTLDs, which saw growth of 36% year over year. .COM is still the largest TLD closely followed by .DE, .NET, .ORG, CO.UK and .CN. Three of the top twenty ccTLDs experienced double-digit growth, including .CN, .RU and .KR.
.CN is growing at a rapid pace, with a 402% increase in registrations making it now the second largest ccTLD, just ahead of .uk.
New registrations of domain names are still increasing, and in the second quarter of 2007 there were around 14.5 million new registrations, exceeding the previous all time high mark made in the fourth quarter of 2006.
